Good-by for now
A photo story about my late grandfather, who I called Pop, titled based on his sign off on one of his letters, and looking into his life before I was alive as I find many unintentional parallels within my life and his. David Francis Butler was a chaplain’s assistant in the United States Army, a Photographer by hobby, and later on in life worked for kodak in Rochester NY. He worked at Kodak as long as he could until his memory started to give out as part of his struggle with Lewy body dementia, which would eventually take his life. Today, I am a photography major, and I am an Army ROTC Cadet, and will be an Officer in the United States Army after I graduate from college, with Pop as my only close family member to have been in the military. yet it didn’t click until recently how subconsciously I am following in his footsteps. I decided to do this project as a way to understand him better, to try to really see who he was, compared to who I am becoming.
